This Box Set collects the first five albums recorded by the British Rock supergroup Bad CompanyFind albums by this artist and released between 1974 and 1979. The group was formed soon after the brilliant FreeFind albums by this artist fell apart and included Free vocalist Paul RodgersFind albums by this artist and drummer Simon KirkeFind albums by this artist as well as Mott The HoopleFind albums by this artist guitarist Mick RalphsFind albums by this artist and King CrimsonFind albums by this artist bassist Boz BurrellFind albums by this artist. This lineup recorded all these five albums.
Musically Bad Company was initially a direct continuation of where Free left off, i.e. moving gradually away from Blues and Blues-Rock into straightforward Rock with just a tinge of Blues, which was still present mainly due to Rogers´ incredible voice, which sounds Bluesy whatever he sings. The first two albums are absolute classic and the rest slowly loosen the magic, but in retrospect are way better that anything recorded today.
Personally anything that has Paul Rodgers singing on it is fine with me, as he is definitely one of my absolute top vocal favorites, not only because of his superb and unique voice but more importantly due to his wonderful musicality, feel and groove, especially for the Blues but also in the Rock idiom.
Alongside Humble PieFind albums by this artist and Spooky ToothFind albums by this artist, Free and Bad Company were the very core of British Blues-Rock, which was absolutely unbeatable by anything else on this planet. Those bands flourished for a brief period of time between late 1960s and mid-1970s, leaving an unsurpassed heritage, which still is a beacon of excellence decades later. For fans of that genre, this Box Set is an absolute must!

This Box Set collects reissues of five albums by the legendary British guitarist / composer / bandleader Jeff BeckFind albums by this artist, originally released on the EpicFind albums on this label label between 1971 and 1977. Those are the third to seventh albums recorded by Jeff Beck, except the two albums (one studio and one live) recorded by him as part of the short lived Beck, Bogert & AppiceFind albums by this artist trio.

The next two albums present some of Beck’s most admired work as a guitarist, both being purely instrumental and clearly moving deeply into Jazz-Rock Fusion, but with the unique characteristics of his superb sense of melody and fabulous improvisational abilities, which have but a few equals among the world’s guitar heroes. This Box Set collects reissues of five albums by the legendary British guitarist / composer / bandleader Jeff BeckFind albums by this artist, originally released on the EpicFind albums on this label label between 1980 and 2001. Overall, this is a real treat to all guitar fans and a great showcase of Beck’s undeniable talent as one of the greatest guitarists of all time.

This Box Set collects the first five albums by the great British singer Cilla BlackFind albums by this artist, released between 1965 and 1970. Black shared many things with her contemporaries and friends, The BeatlesFind albums by this artist: she came from Liverpool, she was managed by Brian EpsteinFind albums by this artist, her albums were produced by George MartinFind albums by this artist and some of her songs were written especially for her by John LennonFind albums by this artist and Paul McCartneyFind albums by this artist. Her meteoric rise to the top of the British Pop scene was therefore hardly a surprise but it should be said that she earned her status fair and square simply using her natural talent and iron determination.
These albums are classics of the era and show Black´s versatility as a singer, while she moves between Jazz, Soul and Pop oriented material with flare and elegance. Her strong and pleasant voice was unique and she managed to become one of the early white singers, who successfully interpreted Soul music, making it their own.
Black, who sadly died in 2015, was active for over five decades and proudly created a very impressive legacy, which has but a few equals. These early albums, which have been unavailable for ages, are a must to every British 1960s Pop connoisseur. A must I say!

This Box Set collects five early albums by American instrumental quartet Booker T. & The MG`sFind albums by this artist, which originally consisted of keyboardist Booker T. JonesFind albums by this artist, guitarist Steve CropperFind albums by this artist, bassist Lewie SteinbergFind albums by this artist and drummer Al Jackson, Jr.Find albums by this artist In 1965 Steinberg was replaced by Donald DunnFind albums by this artist and that lineup lasted until Jackson´s death in 1975. The quartet was the house band for StaxFind albums on this label Records and as such appeared on countless classic Soul albums in the 1960s and 1970s. In parallel they released instrumental albums as a quartet, which combined Funk, Soul, Rhythm And Blues and early Jazz-Rock Fusion. The albums included here are their first five studio recordings (except for a Xmas album) released originally between 1962 and 1968.
The music includes some original compositions by the group members, but mostly covers of (then) contemporary Pop / Soul material, skillfully arranged by the group, with some absolutely classic riffs and moves, which are sadly rarely heard today. The cheesy organ sound of the first albums is so ridiculous, that it is a beauty of its own and a trademark of the time.
Some fifty years after this music was recorded it is still a great fun to listen to, notwithstanding the guilty nostalgic feeling of times long gone. The group was so tight and professional that anything they played sounded smooth and funky, making you stand up and dance. These are immortal qualities, which keep this music alive and kicking.
For young listeners and musicians this is a superb example of what great music is made off, and therefore a valuable lesson to be learned by all. As these albums clearly show, very limited resources, simple straightforward arrangements and a lot of talent are enough to create great music. Highly recommended!

This is a Box Set collection of original albums by Israeli singer / composer David BrozaFind albums by this artist, one of the most popular Israeli music figures, who first arrived on the local music scene in the late 1970s and in still very much active today touring worldwide after gaining considerable international success. The set includes the following albums: "David BrozaFind albums with this title" – 1st album released in 1979, "AceFind albums with this title" – 2nd album released in 1982, "BrozaFind albums with this title" – 4th album released in 1984 and "Stolen KissFind albums with this title" – 7th album (counting the first US album released earlier) released in 1991. The eponymous debut album presents Broza as a gifted Folkie, obviously still very much searching for his musical way but already showing clear signs of talent and outspoken social / political awareness, which was quite common among young Israelis at the time. The second album shows his attempt to move more towards Rock, using electric guitars and a full group comprised of some of the best Rock players on the scene at the time supporting him. Shortly after the release of that album Broza went through a process of complete transformation (see the text I wrote about that album for the circumstances surrounding that transformation), which resulted in his discovery of Spanish music and the recording of the superb 3rd album "La Mujer Que Yo QuieroFind albums with this title" ("The Women By My Side"), which reached a quadruple platinum sales status. The fourth album (the third one in this Box Set) is simply a direct continuation of its predecessor and presents Broza´s heartfelt and beautiful renderings of songs by great Spanish songwriters: Joan Manuel SerratFind albums by this artist, Jose Manuel Ortega HerediaFind albums by this artist (aka Manzanita) and Paco IbanezFind albums by this artist, with Hebrew language lyrics by Jonathan GeffenFind albums by this artist. Although it never enjoyed the same level of popularity as its predecessor, it is as good in every sense and still sounds excellent, untouched by time. The last album in this set is an attempt to recapture the Israeli scene after several years of absence, trying to set aside the "Spanish" image and presenting a set of new songs with lyrics by Jonathan Geffen and the late Meir ArielFind albums by this artist, which somehow missed the opportunity, but remains quite a pleasant listen, especially the instrumental title track. This is some of the best Israeli music ever made and of course it is absolutely essential listening. This reissue saves this music from the cruel fate of oblivion, which is a most commendable act of keeping our Culture alive. A must!

This is the 2nd Box Set collection of original albums by Israeli singer / composer Matti CaspiFind albums by this artist, one of the most important Israeli music figures, who played a central role on the emerging local music scene in the 1970s and in retrospect can be considered as one of the Godfathers of what we now consider as contemporary Israeli music. The set includes the following albums: "Matti CaspiFind albums with this title" – 1st album released in 1974, "Side A Side BFind albums with this title" – 3rd album released in 1978, "Matti Caspi Sings Sasha ArgovFind albums with this title" – 6th album released in 1982 and "Mattityahu And AlexanderFind albums with this title" – 8th album released in 1984. The eponymous debut album was one of the great milestones of Israeli music and influenced generations of Israeli musicians with its originality, wonderful melodic quality and above all its personal statement, which clearly expressed the belief in braking barriers and taboos in complete defiance of the commonly accepted standards. The 3rd album presents Caspi´s versions of the songs, which he wrote originally for other Israeli singers and which were initially performed by them. This album and its two predecessors show how in just a few years Caspi created a body of work, which immediately established his position of a leading Israeli songwriter and one of the leaders of the Israeli born generation of music makers, together with Shlomo GronichFind albums by this artist and Yoni RechterFind albums by this artist. The remaining two albums in the set are Caspi´s tribute to the remarkable talents of Alexander ArgovFind albums by this artist (aka. Sasha Argov), the most prominent first generation Israeli composer, who arrived in Israel from Russia in 1934 and who until his death in 1995 was the undisputed royal leader of the local music scene, admired, respected and loved by all Israelis. Argov´s incredible legacy of songs easily equals in its size, beauty, sophistication and originality to the songbooks of Irving BerlinFind albums by this artist, Jerome KernFind albums by this artist, George GershwinFind albums by this artist and other prominent Jewish composers. He brilliantly amalgamated the European Classical heritage, Russian folkloristic themes and the Middle Eastern influences to compose some of the most impressive songs ever written. Most of his songs used brilliant lyrics, mostly written by Israeli poets. Caspi selected some of the songs composed by Argov, arranging them in his very personal style and performs them with obvious respect and deep love, which ipso facto creates a wonderful bridge between the two generations. It´s probably worth mentioning that Caspi plays all the instruments on all these albums, quite brilliantly one might add, which only emphasizes his incredible talent. This is some of the best Israeli music ever made and of course it is absolutely essential listening. This reissue saves this music from the cruel fate of oblivion, which is a most commendable act of keeping our Culture alive. A must!

This Box Set collects reissues of three albums by the iconic British Rock group Deep PurpleFind albums by this artist, originally released on the RCAFind albums on this label label between 1990 and 1996. They are: “Slaves And MastersFind albums with this title” (1990), “The Battle Rages On…Find albums with this title” (1993), and “PurpendicularFind albums with this title” (1996).
“Slaves And Masters” is the thirteenth studio album and the only album recorded by the Mk V lineup of Deep Purple, in which the lead singer Ian GillanFind albums by this artist was replaced by the ex-RainbowFind albums by this artist vocalist Joe Lynn TurnerFind albums by this artist. The rest of the members were veterans since the forming of the Mk II lineup in 1969: keyboardist Jon LordFind albums by this artist, guitarist Ritchie BlackmoreFind albums by this artist, bassist Roger GloverFind albums by this artist and drummer Ian PaiceFind albums by this artist. Some string orchestral arrangements are also present. The album presents nine songs, all co-written by the band members. “The Battle Rages On…” is the fourteenth studio album and the only album recorded by the second reunion of the Mk II lineup of Deep Purple, in which the lead singer Ian Gillan returned to his vocal duties, alas for the last time. This was the last album recorded by the classic Mk II lineup. The album presents ten songs, all co-written by the band members.
“Purpendicular” is the fifteenth studio album and first album by the Mk VII lineup of Deep Purple, which marked the arrival of ex-Dixie DregsFind albums by this artist / KansasFind albums by this artist American guitarist Steve MorseFind albums by this artist, as a replacement for Blackmore (The short-lived Mk VI featured American guitarist Joe SatrianiFind albums by this artist, who eventually could not join the group on a permanent basis). The album presents twelve songs, all co-written by the band members. Later reissues of the albums included single edits as bonus tracks, which are not present here.
Although these albums were met with mixed reception by critics and fans at the time of their release, they are still classic rock album created by Masters of the trade, who never played a wrong note in their life. Considering how dreadful Rock / Pop music created in the 1990s was in general, these three albums are some of the last strongholds of sanity and of course they are an essential part of the Deep Purple legacy.
And yes, all the three album covers are amongst the ugliest ever! ;)

This Box Set collects five of the first six albums recorded by the American vocalist / songwriter / pianist / guitarist Dr. JohnFind albums by this artist (a.k.a. Mac RebennackFind albums by this artist) and released between 1968 and 1973. The decision to skip the third album (called "RemediesFind albums with this title") is completely beyond me. With a wonderful throaty voice and a superb musical sensitivity Dr. John firmly established a position of one of the most original and influential American music personalities.
Dr. John managed to create a unique musical amalgam by mixing his original New Orleans roots with Blues, Jazz, Rhythm And Blues and Soul. The first two albums in this set are both completely zany Psychedelic trips, so unusual and far-reaching that they are considered as milestones of alternative music to this very day. The remaining albums are much more conventional and present Dr. John establishing his more mainstream approach, which mixes his New Orleans influences (Zydeco) with Blues, Soul, Boogie Woogie and Rock, which characterize his career to this very day.
In many respects Dr. John always was a musician´s musician, earning respect and admiration from many of his peers. This explains the fact that many legendary musicians take part in these recordings, including Eric ClaptonFind albums by this artist, Mick JaggerFind albums by this artist, Graham BondFind albums by this artist and many others. This Box Set is an excellent opportunity to get familiar with the Dr. John universe by those who managed to miss it until now, but also to revisit familiar ground by old fans, which don´t have these albums on CD. Duke, who sadly died in 2013, was actively present on the music scene for almost five decades and in retrospect proved to be one of the most dynamic, versatile and inventive musical personalities among his American peers. His early career was connected with Jazz, but later on he was involved also with Rock, Jazz-Rock Fusion, Funk, Soul Jazz and Pop, being equally brilliant in all these genres.
The albums included here show mostly his work in the Funk and Soul Jazz idioms, and include both songs and instrumental pieces, all of which present Duke as a brilliant composer, who is able to create soulful tunes, which are both accessible and artistically astute. His keyboards work is simply stunning and has very few equals. The "After Hours" album is a return to his early Jazz days and partly features Duke in an acoustic piano trio format, which is simply exquisite.
Overall this is a great collection of music, which presents just one of the many facets of Duke´s illustrious career, and although oriented towards less jazzy audiences, it is full of great melodic music and brilliant keyboards performances. Highly recommended!

The original group reformed in 1999 and released several albums since.
The music contained on the first two albums is a brilliant and pioneering psychedelic Rock, which includes stunning instrumental work and use of novel instrumentation. The two concept albums are also interesting attempts to combine Rock and Classical music and profound subject matter. The fifth album is exactly what it says in its title, which at that period means quite a lot.
Overall this is a brilliant trip down the memory lane and sadly another proof of the fact that they don´t make music like that any more… What a bummer…

It presents superb modern Jazz and Fusion, played by Masters of the trade. Together with the third album ("Moon Germs"), which is not present in this Box Set, which features Herbie HancockFind albums by this artist on piano, Stanley ClarkeFind albums by this artist on bass and again Jack DeJohnette on drums, and of course his numerous recordings as a sideman, Farrell established his position as one of the leading figures on the US scene.
The remaining three albums document the transition Farrell made from modern Jazz / Fusion into Jazz-Funk, which is characterized by more emphasis on melodic content and Funk / Groove rhythmic patterns. Although many of Farrell´s fans had a hard time getting used to this new musical direction, his work in that genre was always top notch, with impeccable musicianship and wonderful compositions. He cooperated with several top players specializing in that specific area, like guitarist Joe BeckFind albums by this artist, bassist Herb BushlerFind albums by this artist and others. In retrospect these albums are classics of the genre, sound superbly fresh today and honestly had very little true competition by anybody else over the years.
Farrell, who sadly died in 1986, aged just 48, was definitely an exceptional player and composer, who contributed immensely to American Jazz by constantly searching for new way of expression, ignoring genre constrains and mainstream thinking. This Box Set is an essential listening to every Jazz / Fusion fan on this planet.

This Box Set collects five early albums by American singer / songwriter Michael FranksFind albums by this artist. They are his second (following the debut album released in 1973 on a small independent label) to sixth albums released originally between 1975 and 1980.
Although often described as a Jazz singer, Franks can be hardly defined as a "proper" Jazz singer, and his multifaceted style as a songwriter and vocalist flirts freely with Jazzy Pop, World (mostly Brazilian) Music, Soul and Rock and quite honestly defies any attempt to be neatly categorized, which is of course wonderful.
Franks is a superb example of a vocalist, whose severe limitations (delicate voice and quite limited vocal range) become completely irrelevant in view of his simply stunning delivery and tons of feel for the music and natural intelligence. His abilities as a songwriter are also extraordinary (sadly mostly unrecognized), combining beautiful melodies and sensitive lyrics, a true rare talent.
On these albums Franks is accompanied by some of the finest American musicians, originating mostly from the Jazz or Jazz-Rock Fusion idioms and the instrumental work herein is simply outstanding with many marvelous solos and first class arrangements.
These albums are simply pure delight and a wonderful testimony of Frank´s talents and achievements. It is perhaps time for a new generation of listeners to discover these precious gems and hear what real music is all about. Highly recommended!

This is a Box Set collection of four original albums by Israeli songwriter / singer / guitarist Shalom HanochFind albums by this artist, the undisputed Godfather of Israeli Rock. The albums are: "Only HumanFind albums with this title" released in 1988 (originally a double LP, recorded partly in London), "This Time AroundFind albums with this title" released in 1991, "ViolenceFind albums with this title" released in 1994 and "Evening EveningFind albums with this title" released in 1997. These albums cover Hanoch´s work done in the 1990s, which was received rather coldly at the time, but in retrospect proved to be one of the most fruitful periods of his career.
From the early days of his activity on the local scene in the late 1960s, when he worked with singer Arik EinsteinFind albums by this artist creating the first original Israeli Rock songs, Hanoch established a unique musical style as a composer and an individual delivery as a singer. These basic characteristics constantly developed over the years but in fact never changed Hanoch´s fundamental approach, which is straight-forward and honest above all and lacks mannerisms and platitudes. His lyrics, often very personal, always originate in his personal experiences, feelings and frustrations; broken relationships, social issues, injustice and violence.
Over the years Hanoch never stopped to be a true Rocker, ignoring fashions and fads and remaining true to his convictions. His legacy includes hundreds of wonderful songs, many of which belong to the best ever written by Israeli songwriters and represent the Israeli Culture at its best. These four albums include a whole universe of music, which although being very much Israeli, is also marvelously universal. Essential stuff!

This Box Set collects the first five (or rather four, since the fourth album was a double LP which was also released as two separate LPs in the US) albums recorded by the British Folk-Rock ensemble Incredible String BandFind albums by this artist and released between 1966 and 1968 on the ElektraFind albums on this label label. Originating from Glasgow, Scotland the band started as a trio playing acoustic Folk music and consisted of Robin WilliamsonFind albums by this artist, Clive PalmerFind albums by this artist and Mike HeronFind albums by this artist. Following the release of the first album Palmer left and the rest of the albums were recorded by the duo of Williamson and Heron. Licorice and Rose SimpsonFind albums by this artist, Heron´s girlfriend at the time, take part in the recording of the fourth (double) album.

In total they recorded twelve incredible albums (two of them double) in the span of just eight years, a remarkable achievement by any standard. They also appeared extensively on the BBC, which produced several radio session compilations released later on CDs.
The albums included in this Box Set are a wonderful testimony of the rapid and wondrous development the Incredible String Band from a rather straightforward Folk trio to a Psychedelic, almost Avant-Garde Progressive Fork-Rock ensemble of incredible quality, almost unparalleled by any other act on both sides of the pond. The increasingly complex musical ideas and poetic lyrics are some of the finest examples of the great British Folk-Rock renaissance, which swept the Isles during the Golden Decade.
Folk-Rock fans, who don´t have these albums in their collection, will find this Box Set as absolutely essential, especially the younger music lovers, who missed listening to this superb music while it was happening in real time. The older ones might want to renew these experiences by giving the Incredible String Band another chance, as they were indeed incredible.

As I have been saying for decades, it is painfully obvious, especially now in retrospect that Manfred Mann were one of several British groups infinitely better musically than The BeatlesFind albums by this artist; a statement I have been bitterly criticized for, but which I am ready to repeat any time. This music simply proves my point to anybody who is willing to listen with an open mind. Wholeheartedly recommended!

“Hush” is a duo recording with cellist Yo-Yo MaFind albums by this artist and presents thirteen pieces, four of which are originals by McFerrin and the rest are arrangements of well-known Classical compositions. “Paper Music” is a recording of McFerrin conducting the Saint Paul Chamber OrchestraFind albums by this artist and singing specially arranged vocal parts to nine Classical compositions. “The Mozart Sessions” is also a recording of McFerrin conducting the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and singing specially arranged vocal parts, with pianist Chick CoreaFind albums by this artist performing the piano parts. Although three of these five albums showcase him in the Jazz-Classical Fusion idiom, his extensive and superbly diverse recorded legacy presents the full picture of his achievements so far, and one can never expect what else he will come up with next.
He is also one of the nicest human beings I have ever had the opportunity to meet in person, which is of course not less important than his musical genius. Definitely a “Don’t worry, be happy” person, but also an exceptionally gifted human being.

This Box Set collects the five albums by Brazilian pianist / composer Sergio MendesFind albums by this artist, released by AtlanticFind albums on this label Records between 1964 and 1968. During that same period Mendes also released albums for A&MFind albums on this label Records, mostly with a vocal group, which were much more popular and commercially successful. The Atlantic albums are more Jazz oriented and are one of the earliest examples of Jazz-World Fusion.
Mendes gained popularity as one a several Brazilian artists, who swept the American music scene in the mid 1960s, popularizing the wonderful bossa nova movement. He combined his own composition with those of dozens of great bossa nova songwriters in Brazil, popularizing them in the USA. His various group included mostly Brazilian players, such as bassist Sebastiao NetoFind albums by this artist and drummers Chico BateraFind albums by this artist and Chico De SouzaFind albums by this artist, but he was often supported by top American Jazz players like trumpeter Art FarmerFind albums by this artist, saxophonist Phil WoodsFind albums by this artist, flautist Hubert LawsFind albums by this artist and many others. Sometimes he also used extensive orchestral arrangements, which of course sounded pretty kitschy at times.

These albums include many of the classic bossa nova evergreens, and still are great fun to listen to, even if they sound somewhat outdated due to relatively simplistic production and problematic sound quality. For bossa nova fans these are absolute classics, others might like to take a trip down the nostalgia lane; whatever the reason, this music still has a lot of charm and zest. Recommended!

This Box Set collects five of the albums by the Brazilian singer / songwriter Milton NascimentoFind albums by this artist released between 1994 and 2002. Nascimento is undoubtedly one of the greatest World Music artists of all times and his genius needs no introduction. As far as Brazilian music is concerned, he was (and still is of course), in retrospect, its most distinguished and elaborate ambassador. In contrast to other Brazilian musicians / composers, who represented certain Brazilian localized styles, like samba or bossa nova, Nascimento always presented the essence of Brazilian music and above all its spirit, full of melodic, lyrical melancholy. His exquisite melodies are often among the finest pieces of music created by man.
From his early days Nascimento was connected with Jazz and his early albums are all superb pioneering examples of Jazz-World Fusion. These later albums, included here, are still very jazzy and feature many distinguished Jazz musicians from Brazil and other parts of the world.

This is a Box Set collection of original albums by Israeli singer / composer Alon OleartchikFind albums by this artist, a member (bassist) of the legendary KaveretFind albums by this artist, Israel´s first supergroup, which conquered the country´s music scene in the early 1970s and influenced the future of the local music scene more than any other singular band or musician since. Later he moved to NY and played with local musicians in several different groups, covering different genres. He returned to Israel in 1984 to participate in a Kaveret reunion tour and decided to stay and continue his career back home. The overall level of these songs, their versatility on one hand and exceptionally high musicality on the other, makes them truly remarkable and positions Oleartchik as one of the best and consistent music creators in the country. He manages to elevate himself above all genre differences, creating a natural and honest cross-genre music, which amalgamates Pop, Rock, Jazz and World Music influences smoothly and elegantly. Oleartchik, who is somewhat introverted and above all very modest, a rare quality among showbiz people, appears rarely in the public eye and is criminally underappreciated. Often referred to as a "musicians´ musician" it is quite a pity his great music is relatively little known despite critical acclaim. Hopefully this will change in the near future. This is some of the best Israeli music ever made and of course it is absolutely essential listening. This reissue saves this music from the cruel fate of oblivion, which is a most commendable act of keeping our Culture alive. A must!

This is a Box Set collection of four original albums by Israeli composer / keyboardist / singer Yoni RechterFind albums by this artist, the most important figure on the popular music scene in the country. The albums are: "Legend In The SandsFind albums with this title" released in 1980 (and released here on CD for the first time), "Round About NowFind albums with this title" released in 1992, "Thoughts And PossibilitiesFind albums with this title" (with Eli MoharFind albums by this artist) released in 1995 and "Another StoryFind albums with this title" released in 2002. The fact that all these albums are not available on the market since quite a while is a travesty and this is a most welcome gesture to make them available again at a very reasonable price.
"Legend In The Sands" is a ballet suite composed by Rechter for the Israeli Inbal Ballet Company. It is mostly instrumental, but includes also a few songs. The album was recorded at the same period when Rechter was recording his debut album "Intentions" and was released almost simultaneously with the debut, gaining no attention whatsoever at the time and disappearing in the deletion bins soon after. The music is an early example of Rechter´s ability to compose stylistically diverse music for different settings, beyond the Pop market.
"Round About Now" is an instrumental album (with one exception), which presents eight original compositions by Rechter performed by a wonderful ensemble comprising of the top Israeli Jazz players at the time: saxophonist Guri AgmnonFind albums by this artist, flautist Ilan SalemFind albums by this artist, keyboardist Adi RennertFind albums by this artist, bassist Alon NadelFind albums by this artist and drummers Israel NachumFind albums by this artist, Eitan ItzkowitchFind albums by this artist and Yuval ShafrirFind albums by this artist. Overall this is a goldmine of absolutely brilliant music, which is an excellent example of what intelligent contemporary music should be like. Rechter´s role as a leader and pioneer of the Israeli music scene is invaluable and he deserves out deep appreciation and praise for his extraordinary achievements. Hopefully we´ll have the pleasure to enjoy many more of his works in the future.

His solo albums never achieved commercial success, despite the fact that they were all excellent, which is a great pity.
Reid´s completely original timbre of voice is one of the most unique in Rock history and his sensitivity and intelligence as a musicians were truly above most of his contemporaries. Reid incorporated in his music Blues and Soul influences, creating a long string of memorable performances over the years. He also cooperated with many first-rate musicians over time, like Graham NashFind albums by this artist, with whom he co-wrote songs and who produced his fourth album.
When listening to these albums in retrospect it becomes obvious that success is blind as a bat, and in countless cases it prefers worthless twits to hidden geniuses. At least this music is now available again for future generations and hopefully it will be discovered by some and even properly appreciated. This is, after all, a great chapter in Rock´s history.

This Box Set collects the first five albums by the seminal British early Rock group The ShadowsFind albums by this artist recorded and released between 1961 and 1966. The group was a quartet, pioneering instrumental Rock and their hits influenced more young (at the time) people to pick up the guitar that any other group in music history. They were also the backing band of singer Cliff RichardFind albums by this artist, which at the time meant more or less to be at the top of the world.
These albums present The Shadows on their own, separate from their association with Cliff Richard, playing mostly instrumental pieces, covers as well as original compositions. Their distinctive style and sound remain fresh half a Century later, still sounding pretty unique today. The group´s lead guitarist Hank MarvinFind albums by this artist developed a completely inimitable style based on clean guitar sound with lots of echo and vibrato, which was later copied by millions of guitar player the world over.
Musically these albums are of course on the easier side of the spectrum, with pretty melodies and catchy riffs, but listening attentively there is a lot of interesting stuff happening between the players, which is worth listening to, especially from such time perspective. These albums do not include the great hits of the band, which were released as singles or EPs, and are available elsewhere.
Overall this is a great trip down the nostalgia lane, a piece of Pop / Rock history and amazingly a vivid proof of how popular music deteriorated over time.

Although these new editions often bring back to life some of the best music ever made on this planet, which in many cases have been lost in the tides of time and was unavailable on the market for ages, they suffer from an unforgivable disregard to the essence of cultural values and general sloppiness, contrary to human decency, which requires us to treat our cultural legacy with respect and loyalty. The Box Sets produced under these monikers have no discographical information whatsoever about the lineups, musician names, composers, lyricists, dates and places of recording, original release data and even basic copyright data (the last is strictly illegal BTW). Although the original LP sleeves are reproduced, they are often edited and information (which would be in most cases too small to be readable) is removed. In short the fact that these Box Sets are meant to be inexpensive, does not mean that they have to be cheap. Considering the fact how many times this music has been sold over and over again by the labels, this is a crying shame!

This Box Set collects five albums involving British multi-instrumentalist / composer / bandleader Roy WoodFind albums by this artist, one of the most colorful characters of the Rock scene in the 1960s / 1970s. They include the last album by the seminal group The MoveFind albums by this artist, the first album by the group Electric Light OrchestraFind albums by this artist (a.k.a. ELOFind albums by this artist), which coexisted simultaneously with The Move in a "split personality" havoc with the same band members (Wood, Jeff LynneFind albums by this artist and Bev BevanFind albums by this artist) being in both groups, two solo albums by Wood and one album by Wood´s next group WizzardFind albums by this artist, spanning the period between 1971 and 1979. This selection is quite bizarre and misses the point by a mile, with the Move and ELO albums completely out of place in this Box Set. Wood recorded four solo albums, three albums with Wizzard and one with the Wizzo BandFind albums by this artist; some of these could have easily fit the bill to be included here replacing the Move and ELO albums.
One we ignore the actual albums selection, the music included here is truly superb and pays tribute to one of British Rock´s greatest talents. Wood had a completely unique approach to Rock, which displayed elements of drama, theatrical expressiveness, satire and cabaret like presentation, all of which was eons ahead of its time. Forty years after it was recorded this music still sounds wonderfully weird and completely different from anything else. Wood´s ability to play almost every instrument he could lay his hands on is also pretty amazing.
Overall this Box Set is a great opportunity to revisit some great music, for those of us who lived while it was happening and to discover it by those born too late to enjoy it in real time. Hopefully another Box Set will complete the Wood legacy properly. In the meantime enjoy this iconic zany / brilliant piece of Rock history. Highly recommended!
