STEVE HILLAGE ~ GREEN (EXPANDED EDITION)
VIRGIN 373456 (Barcode: 094637345627) ~ UK ~ Progressive Rock

Recorded: 1977 - 1979 Released: 2007

4th album by Steve HillageFind albums by this artist, recorded almost immediately following the recording of its predecessor (Motivation RadioFind albums with this title), on which he shares the production credits with no other than Pink FloydFind albums by this artist’s drummer Nick MasonFind albums by this artist. Hillage and his partner Miquette GiraudyFind albums by this artist wrote all the music on this album and the excellent and very tight band makes this perhaps the most consistent (musically) album Hillage ever recorded. Hillage’s guitar work is superb all the way and his almost telepathic cooperation with Giraudy reaches its peak here. Listening to this music 30 years after it was recorded it still quite an experience and it sounds as good now as it did then. Another classic worthy of being a part of any decent music collection.

PINK FLOYD ~ THE PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN (40TH ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION)
EMI 503919 (Barcode: 5099950391929) ~ UK ~ Classic Rock

Recorded: 1967 Released: 2007

1st album by Pink Floyd and generally considered as the ultimate and pioneering psychedelic release, which basically defines the genre. Syd BarrettFind albums by this artist, Nick MasonFind albums by this artist, Richard WrightFind albums by this artist and Roger WatersFind albums by this artist collectively created some amazingly advanced music, although Barrett’s influence over the group’s output was decisively dominant as long as he was a part of it (his sad fate is generally well known and no need to go into it here). As there have been endless write-ups about this music I don’t need to expand on the subject, other that say that this fabulous new edition is a dream come true for all the numerous fans of the group (of all ages), as it contains not only the stereo and mono versions of the entire album (which are quite different sonically) but also a 3rd CD of bonus material with singles, studio outtakes and other rarities. Packaged in a hardcover book format, this labor of love is surely to become a most wanted collector’s item almost immediately. Absolutely Essential!

PAM & GARY WINDO ~ AVANT GARDENERS
REEL RECORDINGS 001 (Barcode: 641444015320) ~ UK ~ Jazz

Recorded: 1974 - 1976 Released: 2007

Saxophonist Gary WindoFind albums by this artist was one of the most prominent figures on the British Jazz scene. A brilliant player and improviser, he led his own group as well as cooperated with ensembles such as Brotherhood Of BreathFind albums by this artist, CentipedeFind albums by this artist, Matching MoleFind albums by this artist and others. He also worked with many musicians associated with the Canterbury scene, like Hugh HopperFind albums by this artist and Robert WyattFind albums by this artist. He played also with Pink FloydFind albums by this artist’s drummer Nick MasonFind albums by this artist. Gary died in 1992, sadly prematurely when his immense contribution to music was cut short much before it was exhausted. This album presents Gary in a series of improvised music pieces recorded with his pianist wife Pam WindoFind albums by this artist in a duo, trio (with Frank PerryFind albums by this artist on percussion) and quartet (with Harry MillerFind albums by this artist on bass and Louis MoholoFind albums by this artist on drums) settings. The music is a superb example of spontaneous creation, complex and demanding, but richly rewarding. Intended to Free Jazz and Improvised Music enthusiasts.
