  | MICK FLEETWOOD & FRIENDS ~ CELEBRATE THE MUSIC OF PETER GREEN AND THE EARLY YEARS OF FLEETWOOD MAC BMG 4050538669336 (Barcode: 4050538669336) ~ UK ~ Blues-Rock Recorded: 2020 Released: 2021
This 2CD album, recorded live at the legendary Palladium in London in February 2020, is a document of a special concert organized to pay tribute to one of the greatest Blues guitarists of all time, Peter GreenFind albums by this artist, and his seminal group Fleetwood MacFind albums by this artist. Mick FleetwoodFind albums by this artist (on drums) and Green formed Fleetwood Mac in 1967 and the group included also guitarist Jeremy SpencerFind albums by this artist and bassist John McVieFind albums by this artist, and eventually a third guitarist Danny KirwanFind albums by this artist. That early lineup lasted until May 1970, when Green left, and recorded a number of albums, which are absolute Blues-Rock classics to this very day. Green died a few months after this concert took place.
This concert, three years in planning in making, presents no less than twenty-three songs from the Fleetwood Mac repertoire, about half of them written by Green, including the everlasting icons like “Man Of The World”, “Oh Well”, “The Green Manalishi”, “Albatross” and “Black Magic Woman”. The list of names of the guest musicians appearing on this album reads like a Rock / Blues encyclopedia and includes musicians such as David GilmourFind albums by this artist, John MayallFind albums by this artist, Bill WymanFind albums by this artist, Noel GallagherFind albums by this artist, Christine McVieFind albums by this artist (a.k.a. Christine PerfectFind albums by this artist), Jeremy Spencer, Pete TownshendFind albums by this artist and many others. The overall level of performances is simply staggering.
The fact that this concert actually took place, despite the nightmarish logistics involved with bringing so many musicians on one stage, not mentioning the contractual complications, is a symbol of Peter Green’s influence on generation of musicians all over the world. His contribution to the Blues idiom is simply immeasurable and goes way beyond the British Blues Revival of the 1960s, as his music proves to be simply everlasting.
For Blues / Blues-Rock fans this album is an absolute must of course, and hopefully it will also open the eyes / ears of some young listeners to the treasures of days passed, which still glimmer more potently than anything recorded today.

  | LAW ~ THE LAW (DELUXE EDITION) FRIDAY MUSIC 1062 (Barcode: 829421106227) ~ UK ~ Classic Rock Recorded: 1991 Released: 2008
This is a reissue of the only album by the short-lived British Rock group The LawFind albums by this artist, co-led by vocalist / songwriter Paul RodgersFind albums by this artist and drummer Kenney JonesFind albums by this artist. The lineup included studio musicians, like guitarists Jim BarberFind albums by this artist and John StaehelyFind albums by this artist, bassists Pino PalladinoFind albums by this artist and George HawkinsFind albums by this artist and keyboardists Steve PigottFind albums by this artist and Jon AstleyFind albums by this artist, as well as many guest musicians like Bryan AdamsFind albums by this artist, David GilmourFind albums by this artist and Chris ReaFind albums by this artist. The original album presents eleven tracks and this edition adds one bonus track. Four of the tracks (including the bonus) are Rogers originals and the rest are by other songwriters.
At the time of its release the album received very little attention and the band never really took off, but in retrospect it is a pretty nice collection of great Rock / Blues-Rock songs and Rogers’ vocals are absolutely sensational, as on every album he ever recorded.
Overall, this is an almost forgotten chapter in Rogers’ brilliant career, which is worth remembering, although the album is quite difficult to get a hold of these days. I have had an absolute blast listening to it again, which is hardly surprising as I have always considered Rogers to be one of the greatest British Rock vocalists of all time.

  | PAUL RODGERS ~ MUDDY WATER BLUES EAGLE 222 (Barcode: 5034504122222) ~ UK ~ Blues Recorded: 1993 Released: 2002
British vocalist Paul RodgersFind albums by this artist is without a doubt the greatest white Blues singer of all times. Since his days as the front man of the legendary FreeFind albums by this artist and in the five decades that followed no other vocalist managed to demonstrate the same level of sensitivity, virtuosity and feeling even remotely close to those of Rodgers. This stunning album, which as the title suggests is a tribute to the great Blues singer / songwriter Muddy WatersFind albums by this artist, finds Rodgers performing the classic material with flare and his usual brilliance. He is accompanied by a horde of great guitarists, all paying tribute to the great Godfather of Blues: Jeff BeckFind albums by this artist, David GilmourFind albums by this artist, Buddy GuyFind albums by this artist, Brian MayFind albums by this artist, Steve MillerFind albums by this artist, Gary MooreFind albums by this artist, Trevor RabinFind albums by this artist, Neal SchonFind albums by this artist, SlashFind albums by this artist and a few others. Anything else said about this music is completely redundant – just grab it when you can as this is one of the greatest Blues albums ever recorded!

  | ROBERT WYATT ~ CUCKCOOLAND DOMINO 47 (Barcode: 5034202204725) ~ UK ~ Canterbury Scene Recorded: 2002 - 2003 Released: 2008
8th album by Robert WyattFind albums by this artist, recorded six years after the last album (Wyatt seems to be keeping his followers purposely on the edge) and another minor masterpiece. Wyatt seems to have found finally the perfect formula for creating his unique music: using his wife´s poetry as lyrics and cooperating with Jazz (this time notably with two Israelis – saxophonist Gilad AtzmonFind albums by this artist and bassist Yaron StaviFind albums by this artist) and Rock veterans like Brian EnoFind albums by this artist, David GilmourFind albums by this artist and Phil ManzaneraFind albums by this artist. The political statements are still there, but less aggressive (not less painful or truthful of course), well even the most fierce revolutionaries get old in time. The music is fresh, vibrant, whimsical and magical, same as always and stimulating as ever. Of course Wyatt´s music never was intended for mass consumption and musical charts. It takes time and patience, as well as open-mindedness and musical liberalism in order to fully appreciate this kind of Art. Considering the fact that Wyatt has been at the center of musical activity for five decades, his position in the Pantheon is assured, regardless of what some critics may think about him and his music. This is beautiful, stimulating music, which shows that not everything in music is lost in the 21st Century!
