Overall, as usual with any archival material by Miles Davis, the music is absolutely Godly, stressing again his unshaken position as the greatest Jazz musician of all time. Although the music does not reveal any surprising elements, it affirms his status, and for every Davis’ follower on this planet is absolutely essential.

CD 3 Mini-Sleeve Box Set Remastered Recommend To A Friend

MILES DAVIS ~ WARSAW CONCERT 1983 IMMORTAL 104243 (Barcode: 8712177056620) ~ USA ~ Jazz-Rock Fusion Recorded: 1983 Released: 2010 The importance of this music stretches far beyond the fact that this is music played by the great Miles DavisFind albums by this artist during the last decade of his life, when his playing was rejuvenated and full of creative powers again. This unique recording was captured during the Warsaw´s Jazz Jamboree festival, Easter Europe´s most important Jazz even for several decades during the Socialist regime. In fact Warsaw´s JJ was almost the only Jazz Festival where Eastern European Jazz enthusiast could hear Western Jazz musicians live. The fact that the JJ festival was able to bring Miles Davis over, during a renewed peak of his world popularity and against all odds (economic, political, etc.), is a miracle and the fascinating story behind the scenes is worthy of a movie script. I´ve been privileged to be a part of this story, but that is well beyond the scope of these notes. The music presents Miles accompanied by an ensemble of young and talented musicians, which consists of saxophonist Bill EvansFind albums by this artist, guitarist John ScofieldFind albums by this artist, keyboardist Robert Irving IIIFind albums by this artist, bassist Darryl JonesFind albums by this artist, drummer Al FosterFind albums by this artist and percussionist Mino CineluFind albums by this artist. They play the material that Miles preferred at the time, which is funky rhythmically, but quite complex harmonically. There is plenty of space for extended improvisations, with Miles playing more than he did in a long time, blowing the listeners away every time. In retrospect the music sounds as good today as it did at the time, which once again confirms Miles´ genius and prophetic vision of music. Since this is not a part of the Miles´ Columbia output, it is much more difficult to find. Great stuff!

ROBBEN FORD & BILL EVANS ~ COMMON GROUND MPS 4029759178842 (Barcode: 4029759178842) ~ USA ~ Smooth Jazz Recorded: 2020 Released: 2022 This is the 2nd album by the duo of American Fusion musicians, guitarist Robben FordFind albums by this artist and saxophonist Bill EvansFind albums by this artist, recorded with bassist Darryl JonesFind albums by this artist and drummer Keith CarlockFind albums by this artist. Vocalist Max MutzkeFind albums by this artist appears on one track. The album presents nine tracks, five by Ford and four by Evans. The music is a predictable mixture of Blues, Melodic Fusion and Smooth Jazz, which is very listenable and widely accessible, but lacks any particular artistic values, except of course the very high level of professional performance skills by all the participants. Ford is an exceptionally gifted Blues guitarist and Evans a great Jazz saxophonist, but they are here to enjoy themselves rather than play some serious music. Overall, this is a highly entertaining album, smoothly performed by all participants, ideal for cocktail parties and long rides in a cabriolet. I confess that when I am particularly gloomy and tired, this kind of music is exactly what the doctor prescribed!

It features twelve covers of Blues standards, which makes it the first Stones album to comprise entirely of covers. The Deluxe Edition contains no additional music in comparison to the standard edition, but is beautifully packaged and includes a hardcover book about the sessions and the origin of the songs and glossy photographs of the band. For The Stones this album is a symbolic closing of a circle. They always were and never stopped to be a Blues band, even when they ventured into other territories, some closer to the Blues like Rhythm And Blues and Rock And Roll and others more remote, like Psychedelic Rock and Pop. But overall, they always had the Blues deep inside their musical guts, which probably is the main reason why they managed to survive and carry on for all these years, now in the sixth decade of their odyssey. The album presents all the "usual" qualities every Stones´ album is blessed with: honesty, directness and no bullshit attitude, which made them always different from most other superstar groups, who came and went away over the years. As Jagger says in the album´s book, The Stones could have recorded this album in 1963 or 1964, and I wish they would have done so, as we would now have that recording to compare with the one made over fifty years later. But listening to the early Stones albums today is good enough to reach the conclusion that five decades made them better in many ways, but more importantly did not blemish any of their basic qualities, which make them what they are. Although "white men can´t jump" might apply to some areas of life, but The Stones phenomenon is a living proof that white musicians can play the Blues with the same emotional and spiritual depth as the forefathers of the idiom. After all it´s not about the color of your skin, but about the color of your soul! And the rest is history…
