BEATA PRZYBYTEK ~ JA TU TYLKO SPIEWAM
SJ 085 (Barcode: 5905489721260) ~ POLAND ~ Jazz-Pop Fusion

Recorded: 2024 Released: 2025

This is the 7th album by Polish singer / songwriter Beata PrzybytekFind albums by this artist, recorded with a team of excellent instrumentalists, headed by producer / arranger / keyboardist Tomasz KalwakFind albums by this artist, with keyboardist Boguslaw KaczmarFind albums by this artist, guitarist Damian KuraszFind albums by this artist, bassist Adam KowalewskiFind albums by this artist and drummer Tomasz MichanskiFind albums by this artist. Three guest musicians play on selected tracks. The album presents the now “usual” lucky thirteen (twelve plus one bonus) tracks, all composed by Przybytek with lyrics by six different lyricists. The album was recorded at several Polish studios and one US studio, over the period of many months.

Przybytek emerged on the local Polish scene slightly over two decades ago and persistently proved to be one of the most fascinating female vocalists and later also songwriters. She quickly established a class of her own, unmatched by any other vocalist, firmly based within the Jazz inspiration but also embracing other musical genres, like Soul, Blues and Pop, creating a perfect amalgam, which manages to sound likeable and acceptable to a wide audience, despite the fact that is always highly Artistic, Aesthetic and simply Classy.

The somewhat tongue-in-cheek title of this album (“I Am Only Singing Here”) is in complete disparity to the reality, as the album is completely filled by Przybytek’s captivating personality, and her presence is felt in every note and word herein. I fully support the fact that she sings in Polish, as her sublime pronunciation and bending of words are phenomenal, and would be not possible when not singing in her mother tongue.

Kalwak manages to wrap all the songs into a highly coherent soundscape, which results in a wonderful flow and continuity for the entire duration of the album. Obviously all the instrumental work here is as perfect as one might wish for, most importantly wonderfully balanced with the vocals, complementing them superbly. The production and recording, which are often ignored by listeners, truly deserve respect.

Overall, this is another triumphant achievement by Przybytek, with the only snag being the fact that she kept us all in suspense for eight years. That is cruel my Dear, please don’t do it again. Heartfelt thanks for bringing some light into this gloomy world!
