JASPER VAN`T HOF ~ ON THE MOVE INTUITION 71314 (Barcode: 608917131420) ~ NETHERLANDS ~ Jazz Recorded: 2015 Released: 2015 This is a live album by the Dutch keyboardist / composer / bandleader Jasper van`t HofFind albums by this artist, recorded in a quartet setting with Austrian saxophonist Harry SokalFind albums by this artist, Dutch bassist Stefan LievestroFind albums by this artist and Swiss drummer Freddy StuderFind albums by this artist. The album presents eight tracks, seven of which are original compositions by van`t Hof and one is an interview with him, where he talks about his life and music. Jasper van`t Hof is of course one of the European Jazz Giants, who can be considered as one of the European modern Jazz Godfathers. He was a central figure on the European Jazz scene since the late 1960s, led several legendary bands with international lineups, like Association P.C.Find albums by this artist and Pork PieFind albums by this artist, recorded over fifty albums as a leader and a similar number as a sideman. The music is all strongly melody based, but the extended improvisations allow all four musicians to present their superb skills. Sokal is one of the best European saxophonist, mostly known as one of the principal soloists of the legendary Vienna Art OrchestraFind albums by this artist. Studer, one of the pioneers of Swiss Jazz, is also known as a performer of contemporary Classical Music. Lievestro, although the youngest of the players herein, already established his position as a refined bassist, playing both the acoustic and electric version of the instrument. In short this a truly refined team, playing a truly magnificent concert. Overall, this is an outstanding example of European Jazz at its best, played by some of the best musicians on the continent, with artistic roots going back to the late 1960s, but completely up to date as far as their competence and skills are concerned. Wholeheartedly recommended!
