ELTON DEAN / SOPHIA DOMANCICH ~ AVANT
HUX 063 (Barcode: 682970000633) ~ UK ~ Canterbury Scene

Recorded: 2004 Released: 2005

Elton DeanFind albums by this artist and Sophia DomancichFind albums by this artist are both members of Pip PyleFind albums by this artist`s band Equip OutFind albums by this artist, where they met many years ago. This recording is their first performance as a duo and is completely improvised. It is a beautiful example of Avant-Garde music (as the title so appropiately states), be it avant-jazz or avant-rock - the labels are meaningless and the music transcendents them. The level of interplay between them is truly phenomenal and the material, although improvised, has parts which could be even described as romantic. A must for avant-heads.

PIP PYLE / EQUIPE OUT ~ INSTANTS
HUX 062 ~ UK ~ Canterbury Scene

Recorded: 1994

3rd album by Pip PyleFind albums by this artist´s group Equipe OutFind albums by this artist catching Pip`s improvising ensemble live in Paris. The pianist Sophia DomancichFind albums by this artist was replaced by the French guitar player Maurice MayerFind albums by this artist, which changes the sound drastically to be more fusiony, but the main elements of improvisation are still dominant. This music requires a lot of involvement from the listener, but is eventually deeply rewarding. Definitely worth checking out for the more jazz inclined listener.
