This is an archival live album by the Brazilian band Som ImaginarioFind albums by this artist, which presents previously unreleased material recorded live at the capital city of Brasilia in 1976 and a couple of bonus tracks recorded a year earlier in Rio de Janeiro. The band was initially formed as a support band of the great Brazilian singer / songwriter Milton NascimentoFind albums by this artist, with whom they toured for many years, but they also maintained their own identity and recorded three splendid studio albums in the early 1970s. The group’s lineup included over time some of the most talented Brazilian musicians / composers, mostly Jazz / Fusion oriented, such as drummer Nana VasconcelosFind albums by this artist, guitarist Toninho HortaFind albums by this artist, keyboardist / composer Wagner TisoFind albums by this artist (who leads the lineup on these recordings) and many others. Saxophonist Nivaldo OrnelasFind albums by this artist and Tiso composed most of the material performed by the group on this album.
The music is a wonderful amalgam of Jazz and Fusion with some Brazilian World Music influences and Progressive Rock legacy from the early days of the band. The instrumental performances are all staggering, which of course is nothing new to music lovers familiar with the Brazilian music scene of that period. The remastered sound is clear and allows a fully satisfactory aural experience for the entire duration of the album. Music lovers interested in the wonderful music created in South America in the 1970s, should be delighted by this album.
Overall, this is a most welcome musical gem, saved from oblivion by the great job done by the British Far OutFind albums on this label Recordings label, which releases a vast amount of Brazilian music, including many albums of great historical importance, like this one. Great job!
