  | FRANCO D`ANDREA ~ LIVE IN PERUGIA PENTAFLOWERS 041 ~ ITALY ~ Jazz Recorded: 1994 Released: 1995
This is a live solo piano album by Italian pianist / composer Franco D`AndreaFind albums by this artist. The album presents six tracks, two of which are medleys of two tunes, so altogether there are eight original tunes by D`Andrea.
D`Andrea is one of Italy’s most famous Jazz musicians and his extensive career spans almost seven decades (he is 82 years old at the time of writing). He played with many American and European Jazz musicians over the years and his recordings span about two hundred albums. He played with Gato BarbieriFind albums by this artist when the Argentine saxophonist resided in Italy, and took part in the recording of the legendary soundtrack of “Last Tango In ParisFind albums with this title” (1972). He was also a member of the Italian Progressive Rock band PerigeoFind albums by this artist during the 1970s with saxophonist Claudio FasoliFind albums by this artist and bassist Giovanni TommasoFind albums by this artist, both of whom later also had successful careers in Jazz music.
This album presents him as a mature Jazz virtuoso, with a highly personal style and modern approach, which has few equals on the European scene. The music flows brilliantly from one tune to another, with a hyper-energetic tension and intensity, leaving the listens practically breathless.
Overall, this is a spectacular display of the great talent and virtuosic technical ability by one of the most fascinating European pianists of all time and one of my personal favorites. I have not heard this album since it was initially released almost thirty years ago, and it reminds to be strikingly original, and as such wholeheartedly recommended, although probably not easy to find these days.

  | PERIGEO ~ ABBIAMO TUTTI UN BLUES DA PIANGERE RCA 167617 ~ ITALY ~ Jazz-Rock Fusion
2nd album from 1973. Another superb offering by this brilliant instrumental Italian quintet, playing jazz influenced music but well inside the Prog genre. Very good compositions and the performances are top notch all the way. For lovers of instrumental Prog this is heaven on earth!

  | PERIGEO ~ GENEALOGIA RCA 167618 ~ ITALY ~ Jazz-Rock Fusion
3rd album from 1974. Another great offering from this Italian group, now expanded to a sextet with addition of percussions. Usual jazz influenced compositions and virtuoso performances make this another must in your collection.

  | GIOVANNI TOMMASO ~ VIA G.T. RED 123196 (Barcode: 8054154650514) ~ ITALY ~ Jazz Recorded: 1986 Released: 2024
This is a reissue of a superb album by Italian Jazz bassist / composer Giovanni TommasoFind albums by this artist, recorded in a quintet setting for the crème de la crème of the Italian Jazz scene: saxophonist Massimo UrbaniFind albums by this artist, trumpeter Paolo FresuFind albums by this artist, pianist Danilo ReaFind albums by this artist and drummer Roberto GattoFind albums by this artist. The album presents seven tracks, all original compositions by Tommaso.
The music is absolutely divine, typical modern Italian Jazz, full of beautiful melodies and lyricism, and performed by the best musicians active at the time. A classic Jazz quintet, which offers a splendid opportunity to hear everybody up close. This album marks a new period in Tommaso’s activity, following years of activity with the Progressive Rock group PerigeoFind albums by this artist in the 1970s and switching full time into playing Jazz.
Overall, this is a classic Italian Jazz album, which captures a “supergroup” of local Jazz heroes, and which sound as fresh and beautiful as it did four decades ago, when this music was recorded.
