In spite of the limitations set by their small format, the group manages to create a varied and rich sound, mostly by using synthesizers in addition to the main instruments they play (piano, sax and percussion). The music is unpredictable and therefore wonderfully surprising, with melodies and tempos changing at neckbreaking speed and freequency. Inspired by their European counterparts, they create a truly unique Canadian musical voice.

CUNEIFORM 288 (Barcode: 045775028828) ~ CANADA ~ Progressive Rock Recorded: 2009 Released: 2009 7th album by the brilliant Canadian ensemble MiriodorFind albums by this artist, one of the most consistently excellent contemporary music makes and proud representatives of the RIO movement, which manages to re-invent itself with every new release. The music is a mixture of Jazz, Rock, some contemporary Classical and other influences, all mixed up and stirred is a unique way, which leaved the listener completely stunned. Funny, dazzling and excellent as ever, this is some of the most invigorating and refreshing music recorded in the gloomy period of little musical achievement in the first decade of the 21st Century. It´s good to have this veteran band to bless us with some true music every now and then and hopefully they won´t stop any time soon. Wholeheartedly recommended!

Adventurous and inspired compositions, rigorous musicianship and a very distinct sound are the hallmarks of this group, which makes all of their albums a truly intellectual experience. On this album they expand the range of instruments and guest musicians, creating an even more complex and intriguing sound.

This is perhaps their most impressive and entertaining work of all and continues the trend that the band has adhered to since their beginning - a sound that is always developing in new and fascinating ways, but remains still completely recognizable as Miriodor. With a few new members and added instruments, the sound of the band is stronger then ever.

The group includes three musicians, who play their main instruments (piano, saxophone and percussion) as well as synthesizers, and they create some of the most interesting music to come out of Canada. This reissue includes also material (recorded in quartet format in 1986) as bonus tracks.

Superb in every respect, they seem to get better with age, like good wine. Quirky, adventurous and zanny are just a few of the words that come to mind when reacting to their ever amazing music, which is intellectualy stumulating at all times. Guest performances by Swedish master musician - accordionist/keyboardist Lars HollmerFind albums by this artist (of Samla Mammas MannaFind albums by this artist) - is a cherry on top! The album comes paired with the live recording from 2002 at the Nearfest festival, which of course if brilliant as well. You just can`t go wrong with this one!

MIRIODOR ~ RECONTRES CUNEIFORM 108 (Barcode: 045775010823) ~ CANADA ~ Progressive Rock Recorded: 1984 - 1985 Released: 1998 1st album by the Canadian group MiriodorFind albums by this artist, which would later be closely associated with the RIO movement, but started as a `classic` Prog group with six musicians. The album presents some beautifuly melodic music, well orchestrated and excellently played, with traces of classical as well as Prog influences. A very impressive debut, although not foretelling at all the groups future work. Bonus material not included on the original vinyl release is included.
