JOHN MAYALL ~ ALONG FOR THE RIDE
EAR MUSIC 4029759130499 (Barcode: 4029759130499) ~ UK ~ Blues-Rock

Recorded: 2000 Released: 2001

With the turn of the Millennium the Godfather of British Blues John MayallFind albums by this artist decided to record an album featuring some of the musicians that played with him during the previous four decades, which naturally turned into a superstar recording, which is hardly surprising considering the fact that Mayall´s BluesbreakersFind albums by this artist were one of the greatest talent nests ever. Some twenty musicians took part in the project and if we list only some of the guitar players, everything becomes clear: Gary MooreFind albums by this artist, Peter GreenFind albums by this artist, Mick TaylorFind albums by this artist, Buddy WhittingtonFind albums by this artist and Jeff HealeyFind albums by this artist. It seems that apart from Eric ClaptonFind albums by this artist most others made it.

The team performs thirteen songs, this time mostly not his creations, except for the superb "California" from the legendary "The Turning PointFind albums with this title" album. Mayall takes care of the vocals and piano on all tracks and the shifting lineup takes care of the rest. The result is everything one would expect from such undertaking: a superb set of Blues songs wonderfully performed by some of the best instrumentalist on earth. Of course guitar freaks won´t be disappointed and one blood-curdling solo chases the next for the duration.

Overall this is a loving tribute to Mayall and his continuous effort to keep the Blues alive, which he obviously deserves. His many fans and Blues lovers in general won´t be disappointed!
