This is an album by Polish Jazz vocalist Iza ZajacFind albums by this artist, who is accompanied by a classic piano trio comprising of pianist Jaroslaw MalysFind albums by this artist, bassist Pawel PuszczaloFind albums by this artist and drummer Adam LewandowskiFind albums by this artist. The album presents nine tracks, all of which are standards (one is an alternate track).
The music is a standard selection of swing standards, pretty mundane and predictable. Despite the fact that these songs are timeless, there is no reason to record them again unless one wants to re-interpret them in an innovate way, at least this is how I see it.
Zajac is obviously experienced and well acquainted with the material, but her mannerisms are old fashioned, derivative and have been already perfected many decades ago. Her English pronunciation is tolerable, but my readers are well familiar with my opinion about Polish vocalists singing in English… The trio offers a perfectly amicable accompaniment, which is professional but hardly innovative or especially exciting.
Overall, this is a nice selection of Jazz standards, which does not differ from thousands of similar albums already in existence, which sort of makes the whole affair mostly redundant? But of course the music is still absolutely classic, ageless Swing.
