This is a live album by the legendary British Rock group The WhoFind albums by this artist, recorded live at the Eden Project in Cornwall, UK. The 2CD album presents twenty-four tracks, all of which were written by Pete Townshend, except one co-written with Daltrey. Sixteen tracks are performed with the orchestra and eight only by the group.
Not surprisingly, the selection of the material spans the entire recording career of the group, which results in an overview / summary / farewell event. Although The Who released already some orchestral projects, this one is definitely the best of those, offering an excellent integration between the original Rock versions of these songs and these bombastic orchestral versions, which present a “heavy” wall of sound effect.
But let’s not forget that The Who was one of the best, most creative and groundbreaking Rock groups ever, and their collective discography contains a massive amount of sublime Rock music, which lost nothing of its power over time, and this attempt to preserve the music in a new framework is most welcome. Just remember to take the volume knob down a notch or two before pressing the play button.
Overall, this is a majestic piece of Rock history, in a new costume, but still exciting and musically inspirational. The diehard fans of the band should find this album essential no doubt, and younger listeners could learn a thing or two about playing real music!
