  | HAKON AUSTBO ~ SATIE PIANO WORKS BRILLIANT CLASSICS 5028421933023 (Barcode: 5028421933023) ~ NORWAY ~ Classical Music Recorded: 1999 Released: 2001
This is an album by Norwegian (resident in Netherlands) Classical pianist Hakon AustboFind albums by this artist, who performs a series of compositions by French composer / pianist Eric SatieFind albums by this artist. The album presents mime pieces, a total of twenty-two tracks.
The music was composed mostly during the last decade of the 19th Century, when Satie was in his twenties. It includes some of his most popular pieces, like the Gymnopedies, Gnossiennes and Preludes, all relatively short but highly emotional pieces, despite their minimalist appearance.
Satie was one of many revolutionary French composers, including such geniuses as Maurice RavelFind albums by this artist, Claude DebussyFind albums by this artist, Francis PoulencFind albums by this artist and many others, who defined modern Classical Music, revolutionizing it in every possible aspect. Since the turn of the 1900s, Paris was a center of great intellectual and artistic progress, where music, poetry, literature, theatre and philosophy, all intertwined, shaped the Modernist / Avant-Garde movements, that ruled the 20th Century Cultural landscape.
These solo piano pieces, although almost shockingly minimalist, completely devout and eschewing any unnecessary elements besides the basic melody lines, are still today some of the finest Classical Music pieces, which lost nothing of its depth and sincerity over time, and deserve to be a must in every person’s basic musical / Cultural education.
Austbo’s performances are as minimalist as the music itself, which is probably the best way to treat this music, which was intended to generate a reaction from the listener, echoing the music rather than the interpretation.
Overall, this is some of the greatest music ever composed, which deserves to be heard by every music lover on this planet. It is never too late and even if you never heard a Classical Music album in your life, this is an excellent way to start!
