GEORGIE FAME ~ A PORTRAIT OF CHET
FOUR LEAF CLOVER 108 (Barcode: 7319200040970) ~ UK ~ Jazz

Recorded: 1989 Released: 1989

This is a little known album by the British Jazz vocalist / keyboardist Georgie FameFind albums by this artist, recorded in Holland with local Jazz musicians: flautist Ellen HelmusFind albums by this artist, trumpeter Niels TauskFind albums by this artist, vibraphonist Frits LandesbergerFind albums by this artist, guitarist Peter NieuwerfFind albums by this artist, bassist Frans TundermanFind albums by this artist and drummer Jo KrauseFind albums by this artist. The album presents eleven tracks, one of which is an original song by Fame, dedicated to the American trumpeter / vocalist Chet BakerFind albums by this artist, to whom this album is dedicated. The remaining ten tracks are Jazz standards associated with the repertoire of Baker, two of which feature lyrics by Fame. The album was only released in Sweden.

Fame is my favorite British Jazz vocalist, and although this album does not innovate or present any special surprises, it offers a relaxed atmosphere and a wonderful collection of songs, so there is nothing not to like about it. It fits perfectly within my extensive Fame albums collection and I absolutely love it. The Dutch play well and offer an amicable support to his vocals, and it is one of the jazziest albums of Fame recorded at the time.

Overall, this is a perfect album for the many Fame faithful followers, and it is as good as all his other recordings, in addition to being a true rare jewel in his discography. If you love Georgie Fame – this is an absolute must have!
