This is the 13th studio album by American Jazz vocalist / songwriter Al JarreauFind albums by this artist. The album features a large team of musicians and producers, like Freddie RavelFind albums by this artist and Paul BrownFind albums by this artist. The legendary British vocalist Joe CockerFind albums by this artist guests on one track. The album presents eleven tracks, some written or co-written by Jarreau.
The music is dominated by the so called “urban sound”, with heavy bass sound and electronic drums, but beneath these studio effects Jarreau still sounds absolutely lovely, as usual, merging Rhythm And Blues, Soul and Jazz, brilliantly performed by the participating musicians and guest backing vocalists. It takes a while to get used to the sound, which usually accompanies ghostly American Pop music, but patience pays off after a while and Jarreau re-appears in his full glory.
Overall, this is a solid vocal album, which despite its strong Pop tendencies, offers a pleasant listening experience, which is accessible to a wide range of music loving audience. Jarreau was a unique Artist, who never made any compromises as far as his music was concerned. The duet with Cocker is of course sensational.
