MARCO ANTÔNIO ARAÚJO ~ INFLUÊNCIAS
SONHOS E SONS 059 (Barcode: 7897999300999) ~ BRAZIL ~ Progressive Rock

Recorded: 1980 Released: 2000

1st album by one of the most important and influential Brazilian Prog Masters - Marco Antônio AraújoFind albums by this artist. As a classically trained musician, Araújo was able to compose complex musical suites based on the classical tradition and then orchestrate them utilizing rocky instrumentation and rhythmic patterns. His pioneering work in this field makes him one of the forefathers of Brazilian Prog and his well-deserved reputation is legendary. Unfortunately he died untimely in 1986 (he was only 36 years old) after suffering a brain aneurysm, leaving a limited recorded legacy of four albums. Before recording his first solo album he played (guitar) with several Brazilian Rock and Prog groups as well as with a Symphony Orchestra as a violoncellist. He also composed music for cinema, theatre and ballet – a true Renaissance musician. The music on this album is an extended orchestral suite in 8 parts, played by a large orchestra (with brass and strings) and soloist: Araújo on guitar and Eduardo DelgadoFind albums by this artist on flute (the leading solo instrument on this album). This is not easy music, profound and complex with multi-layered textures, but extremely rewarding. Recommended to serious Prog listeners, who also like classical music.
