The music is absolutely delicious, wonderfully performed by the great orchestra and superb soloists. Coe is given ample space to present his great solo parts on both saxophone and clarinet, as well as feature his compositions, which are always superbly crafted. His playing on this album is full of passion and lyricism, which is usually less prominent on his British recordings.
It is a pity this music had to wait for over a quartet of a Century to finally see the light of day, but still it was released before Coe’s demise in 2023. For British Jazz fans, this is of course a true gem, and this sadly rather obscure album deserves to be heard by a much wider audience.
Overall, this is wonderful Big Band Jazz album and a great tribute to Tony Coe, a brilliant British Jazz musician of the highest rank, who deserves to be remembered.
