  | SNEAKY JESUS ~ FOR BETTER FUTURE
AUDIO CAVE 2026/003 (Barcode: 5905669566049) ~ POLAND ~ Jazz-Rock Fusion
Recorded: 2026 Released: 2026
This is the 3rd album by the Polish cross-genre group Sneaky JesusFind albums by this artist, which comprises of saxophonist Matylda GerberFind albums by this artist, guitarist Maciej ForreiterFind albums by this artist, bassist Franciszek PospieszalskiFind albums by this artist and drummer Michal WdowikowskiFind albums by this artist. Former bassist Beniamin LasiewickiFind albums by this artist is also listed as a member, although he does not play on the album, only contributed to composing the music. The album presents eight rather short tracks, four of which are credited to Forreiter, three to all the members of the group and one to Gerber.
The music is a weird concoction of stylistic influences, but predominantly offers basic melodic structures, which are then improvised on, mostly featuring the guitar. The overall result is close to Jazz-Rock Fusion, which depending on the listener could be described as searching or alternatively as confused. Despite the hype attributed to this music by local critics, there is very little, if any, innovation of inspired originality, and, at least for me, it is almost entirely “Déjà vu”.
I must say that I much prefer Gerber’s work with the group SlinaFind albums by this artist, which showed a lot of promise, but her presence here is more limited and less impressive. As it often happens on the Polish Jazz scene, I simply don’t get what all the excitement is about some of the Artists, which the local critics prize and I simply can’t get at all? Mea maxima culpa…
Overall, this is cross-genre instrumental music, mixing some Jazz and Rock influences, which is interesting at times but at large becomes repetitive and tedious after a while. Of course there are exciting moments, but not enough to last for almost forty minutes. I suppose these musicians are still searching for the golden path?
