BLALY ~ NYSTALGI
APRIL 128 (Barcode: 5709498112824) ~ DENMARK ~ Smooth Jazz

Recorded: 2022 - 2024 Released: 2024

This is the debut album by the young Danish Jazz piano trio BlalyFind albums by this artist, led by pianist / composer Barbara FiigFind albums by this artist, with bassist Johan Kjaer HouverFind albums by this artist and drummer Timon MaternFind albums by this artist. The album presents eleven tracks, all co-credited to all the trio members.

The music is a highly melodic, easy-listening piano trio Jazz, which offers no particular challenges to the listener, except perhaps staying awake. It floats between Pop-Jazz Fusion and Smooth Jazz, and albeit being well played and recorded, will be of little interest to serious Jazz listeners. The music is original, but sounds rather generic, although the Scandinavian gloomy spirit is definitely quite present. Of course these are only my personal impressions and perhaps other listeners might find in this music things that I have missed.

Overall, this is a pleasant entertaining piano trio music, which seems to be perfect as relaxing background music, the kind that used to be called “New Age” music in the 1990s, and sold millions of albums.
