Vocalist Asia SmajdorFind albums by this artist guests on a couple of tracks. The album presents seven tracks, all of which are composed by Kotowicz. The music is melodic modern Jazz, all strictly within the mainstream tradition, based on excellent, coherent and interesting compositions, perfectly executed by these young, well-schooled musicians, who are the next generation of the Polish Jazz scene. Trabczynski and especially Kuchczynski are already experienced performers and recording artists, each with several albums under their belts. The vibraphone is sadly a neglected instrument as far as contemporary Jazz is concerned, and therefore it is especially exciting to see (and hear) a member of the young generation continuing the tradition of this wonderful instrument, especially when the result is as satisfying as what can be heard on this album. But Kotowicz not only knows how to hold his mallets, but he is also an excellent melody weaver, creating music, which suits perfectly his instrument. It is very difficult to ignore a similarity (and legacy) of Gary BurtonFind albums by this artist in Kotowicz’s work, and one could hardly look for a better inspiration. Overall, this is an excellent debut album, which hopefully opens a new chapter in Polish Jazz romance with vibraphone, and congrats must be extended to Bernard MaseliFind albums by this artist, who was Kotowicz’s mentor at the Jazz department of Katowice Music Academy. Congrats and best wishes for future achievements are in order.
