JIRI STIVIN & RUDOLF DASEK ~ TANDEM – LIVE 1989 GALEN 21 193 (Barcode: 8594042902092) ~ CZECHOSLOVAKIA ~ Jazz Recorded: 1989 Released: 2021 This is an archival live album by the duo of two legendary Czechoslovak Jazz musicians: flautist / saxophonist / composer Jiri StivinFind albums by this artist and guitarist / composer Rudolf DasekFind albums by this artist. They perform nine original compositions, four by Stivin and five by Dasek. Stivin and Dasek are both considered as Godfathers of modern Jazz in Czechoslovakia and both contributed immensely to the development of the local Jazz scene and both have impressive recording legacy. The duo was formed in the early 1970s and existed for several years, producing several albums together under the Tandem moniker. They were among the few Czechoslovak musicians, who were allowed to perform and records outside of their country. This recording marks their 1989 reunion, which produced the “System Tandem ReunionFind albums with this title” album, recorded in 1989 and released in 1991, and this live performance was captured some three months later and remained unreleased for over thirty years. This recording reflects beautifully the telepathic level of communication between these two musicians and clearly belongs to the “Art of the Duo” category. Overall, this is a brilliant example of East European Jazz at its truly highest level and offers a unique live duo performance of brilliant Jazz virtuosi. Hopefully the label's future releases will include information in English in the album's booklets, so that Jazz enthusiasts around the world might be allowed to share the knowledge.
