JAROMIR RUSNAK ~ EVERLASTING SUITE
SJ 084 (Barcode: 5905489721116) ~ POLAND ~ Jazz

Recorded: 2024 Released: 2025

This is the 3rd album by Polish (resident in Italy) Jazz bassist / composer Jaromir RusnakFind albums by this artist, recorded in Italy in a sextet setting with local musicians: saxophonists Raffaele FiengoFind albums by this artist and Riccardo SalaFind albums by this artist, trumpeter Pietro VitaliFind albums by this artist, pianist Giuseppe BlancoFind albums by this artist and drummer Andrea Lo PaloFind albums by this artist. The album presents six tracks, which are parts of a three-part suite with short intro, intermezzo and outro, all composed by the leader.

The music is strictly composed and kept within the modern European Mainstream Jazz idiom, flowing coherently and offering plenty of opportunities for the musicians to solo, including an extensive bass solo work by the leader, which serves as an anchor, which keeps the music together.

There is little innovation or attempt to exit beyond the established Jazz boundaries, but the music is obviously well put together and executed spotlessly by the sextet. There are strong Classical Music influences, mostly in the performance undercurrent, probably a result of the strict educational process, but the Jazz spirit is definitely prevailing.

Overall, this is a solid mainstream Jazz effort, which offers interesting compositions and a well-performed continuity, which should keep most Jazz lovers happy. Rusnak needs to find a more personal approach / statement in his future work, which will undoubtedly follow suit, if he wants to leave a prominent mark on the European scene, which is extremely competitive. Thanks for the music!
