The album presents eight tracks, all of which are songs composed by the leader with English lyrics by Lapka.
The music is a unique cross-genre amalgam of Blues, Pop, Brass Rock and Jazz, which stylistically goes back to the atmosphere of the 1960s / 1970s, which of course is a most welcome idea. The vocalist offers a most idiosyncratic delivery, which puts her aside of all other Polish vocalist on the scene, and is certainly an acquired taste. Sadly, she chooses to sing in English, and my readers know what my opinion is, when Polish singers do that, but of course it is a matter of an Artistic decision, which I can’t question. The instrumental work is all excellent, both by the young core ensemble members and of course the esteemed guests, and the entire album is a great fun to listen to, especially when mixed with some nostalgic memories. The music is strongly influenced by the Blues and sticks to the established conventions, which is fine by me, but it certainly brings the music up to date.
Overall, this is an unusual album on the contemporary Polish scene, full of nostalgic tendencies and great instrumental work, featuring musicians I know since many years, so obviously I enjoyed it, especially since it presents the “that’s what we do” attitude, rather than trying to be likeable. Definitely a whiff of fresh air
