LUBLIN STREET BAND ~ OD MROKU PO WSCHOD
NOT ON LABEL ~ POLAND ~ Brass Rock

Recorded: 2020 Released: 2021

This is the debut album by Polish nine-piece (five brass and four rhythm) Brass Rock ensemble Lublin Street BandFind albums by this artist, led by trumpeter / vocalist / composer Marcin SuszekFind albums by this artist. The album presents ten original songs, all written by Suszek.

The music is a delightful retro Funk / Brass Rock experience, which takes the listener back to the times when music was fun to listen to. It follows the established format of Brass Rock material with the songs featuring vocals backed by the brass instruments and spiced with soloing by the individual brass players, all this based on a strong Funk riffs supplied by the rhythm section. Although the vocals are in Polish, this hardly matters to be honest, as the music is sure to move the booty of anybody who has any sense of rhythm in their body.

Although there is nothing here that we haven’t heard before, the music and the performances are too good to be ignored, especially since nobody makes music like this today. Yet again we have a proof that the “White Man Can’t Jump” slogan is pure BS, and this album as good as anything of this kind ever made across the pond, with vengeance.

Obviously Lublin can not only produce Tzadiks but also some great Funky music as well, which by the way includes some Hassidic motifs audible for those with pointed ears. It is also worth to mention Suszek’s earlier band, called Sex Machine BandFind albums by this artist, which released the excellent “Funkmistrz Z LublinaFind albums with this title” album in 2015, which is also worth checking out!

Overall, this is pure delight from start to finish, especially for people who are not completely dead inside yet, and can enjoy music that goes directly to their guts rather than anywhere else in in their body. Funk away!
