ZAPPA, FRANK / OCCHIOGROSSO, PETER ~ THE REAL FRANK ZAPPA BOOK
PAN BOOKS ~ 0-330-31625-7 ~ 1989 ~ English

Rock / Biography

This is exactly what one would expect from Frank - a book as unusual as his music and as brilliant. A sort of an autobiography, but in his unique way, with some hilarious passages and some very serious comments on life, art and politics. "Destroying the boundaries of the acceptable" is a great quote about Frank and this book is just another proof of that.

ZIMMER, DAVE / DILTZ, HENRY ~ CROSBY, STILLS & NASH: THE BIOGRAPHY
DA CAPO PRESS ~ 0-306-80974-5 ~ 2000 ~ English

Rock / Biography / Art & Photography

This is an updated version of this book first published in 1984. Musician´s biographies tend to be really the worst possible trash, therefore this one is a true exception (that proves the rule). Intelligently written (by Zimmer) and accompanied by hundreds of photographs by Henry Diltz, one of the best (ever!) Rock photographers, this book is a treasure and a genuine pleasure to hold in your hands. This edition brings things up to date through 1999 and if you are interested in those 3 master musicians or in Rock music in general, this is a must!

ZWERIN, MIKE ~ CLOSE ENOUGH FOR JAZZ
QUARTET BOOKS ~ 0-7043-2400-8 ~ 1983 ~ English

Jazz / Biography

An autobiography of American Jazz musician and writer Mike Zwerin, who lives in Paris. Very well written and continuosly funny, this is a great reading experince.

ZWERIN, MIKE ~ LA TRISTESSE DE SAINT LOUIS: SWING UNDER THE NAZIS
QUARTET BOOKS ~ 0-7043-2420-2 ~ 1985 ~ English

Jazz / History & Criticism

An extraordinary tale of Jazz history during WWII, when Jazz existed and even flourished underground in the occupied Europe, Nazi Germany and even in Nazi concentration camps.
